In recognition of their exception support and commitment to the Hospice Care Network and significant involvement in the Long Island community, the organization honored the Racanelli family at its 22nd Annual Children’s and Family Bereavement Dinneron April 8th at Land’s End in Sayville, NY.
For over five decades, the Racanelli family has been contributing to the growth and development of the Long Island region, having developed over 1,000 acres of commercial/industrial property and constructed hundreds of buildings occupying in excess of 13 million square feet. In 1992, Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. was formed by the sons of Martin J. and Rochelle Racanelli: Nicholas H. Racanelli, Michael V. Racanelli, Richard M. Racanelli and Martin J. Racanelli, Jr., joined by their father. After practicing law in New York City, their only sister, Constance, joined the family business as its corporate counsel. In 2010, she formed a women-owned business enterprise, Con Rac Construction Group.
Martin and Rochelle instilled a deep belief in their children that it is important to give back to the community. While each of the Racanelli’s have served with various nonprofit organizations – often holding leadership roles – their involvement with the Hospice Care Network’s Children’s and Family Bereavement Program is a family affair. The Racanelli family has been supporting the Hospice’s Children’s and Family Bereavement Program for the past ten years and Marty, Jr. currently serves on its fundraising committee.
In addition to the Hospice Care Network, the Racanelli’s are actively involved in many other charitable and philanthropic activities. Included among them is the American Heart & Stroke Association for which Nick is Chairman of the Board, Northeast Region, He also is the co-founder of its American Heart & Stroke Century Ride, a 100-mile bike ride. In this year’s bike ride, the Racanelli team, which included Nick, Michael, Richard and Marty, Jr., raised $160,000.
Other organizations in which the Racanelli’s have assumed leadership positions include: Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Nassau Community Medical Center, Southside Hospital, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School and the YMCA of Long Island. Additionally, the Racanelli’s have actively supported countless other organizations ranging from American Cancer Society, AHRC, Children’s Museum of the East End and Contractors for Kids to Hope House Ministries, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Literacy Suffolk, Special Olympics and Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, among many others.
