Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. has been awarded a major new construction project by Arverne by the Sea YMCA (Queens, NY). The $17,350,000 valued project was won in a competitive bid. The new YMCA is located in Arverne, NY. Serving as a General Contractor/Construction Manager on the project, Racanelli will construct the new two-story YMCA on a cleared 2.5 acre site in a new developing community known as Arverne by the Sea. The 36,600 square foot facility is being constructed with a partial basement and will incorporate a pool hall with two separate pool tanks. The pool will have a different long-span roof deck and Firetrol columns. Also featured in the new building will be a double-height interior space with monumental stair, locker rooms, conference rooms, multi-purpose rooms, gymnasium, as well as fitness, exercise and aerobic rooms. Also being provided are an elevator and mechanical rooms.
The building’s construction consists of a pile foundation, concrete framed, and structural steel framing. It will be primarily clad with siding and facing CMU, glazing and curtain walls, storefronts and skylights. Two different roofing systems will be used, including a SBS-modified Bitumen system and a standing-seam metal roof system. As part of the project, Racanelli is performing extensive site work consisting of providing 100 parking spaces, enclosed children’s playground, Little League baseball field, outdoor sitting areas and landscaping. The project is slated for completion in March 2013. The architect on the project is Donald Blair Architects.
This is the second YMCA project Racanelli has been awarded in the past several years. The company just completed a $17.5 million project for Brookhaven-Roe YMCA (Holtsville, NY) for the construction of a 64,929-square foot new facility in Patchogue, NY.
